So often, we are told to focus on what our bodies look like, rather than what our bodies are.
Our bodies are this incredibly complex mechanism of regenerating tissues, flexing tendons, firing synapses. Our bodies are deep breaths, beating hearts, and the myriad of pleasures brought to us by our senses.
Our bodies are a source of joy. There is nothing like pushing the body’s limits and the rush of feeling when the body responds. Taking in a fresh breath pf air after too long trapped inside or the glorious feeling of a hot shower: these are joyful experiences we have in the body. (In fact, without the body, there would be no joy, none of the particular combination of messages sent to the brain and hormones released that allow us to feel joyful.)
Our bodies encapsulate all our joys. By taking the time to be in them rather than scrutinize them, we can live a more joyous life.
When were you last joyful in your body?
