Trickster Moon

This full moon, CAYA Coven celebrates the Trickster Moon. Here are some thoughts and workings to consider.

Some Questions

What keeps you flexible? How do you play? Is there room in your life for the unexpected? Where are you resistant?

Spell to Release Rigidity

Sometimes, despite the best of intentions, we get stuck. We stiffen around some old pain and find it difficult to move. It’s important to release this rigidness. Just as in a car crash, a person who goes stiff is likely to break bones, so are we more likely to break in life if we are rigid in the face of impact. And life is full of impacts.

For this working, you will need a stone, a piece of clay about half the size of your fist, and a small bowl of water. Shape the clay into a small poppet of yourself, with the stone embedded, saying something like:

“Life has made me hard as this rock

Stiffness inside, I wish to unlock.”

Cup the poppet in your hands and whisper your name into it three times. Speak aloud about the hard places inside you and what has shaped them.

Hold a hand over the water and direct energy into it, saying something like:

“As life has hardened me,

So may it soften me.”

Drip water onto the clay poppet. Working carefully, pull the stone from the poppet and smooth the clay over the space where it used to be. Continue adding water as needed to work the clay easily. Take the stone outside and bury it. Leave the clay poppet on your altar. Continue wetting it and shaping it for the next several days, focusing on your intention to soften to life’s influences.

Awakening Play

You will need a candle that smells lighthearted to you and a children’s toy that appeals. I like lemon scents and finger paints for this.

Light the candle, saying:

“To play is life

Releasing strife

May this simple toy

Bring joy.”

Play! Spend at least 10 minutes thinking of nothing but playing. Notice how light you feel after. Notice any feelings of resistance and release them.
