The Poison Moon 2015

Tomorrow night, with the moon big in the sky, CAYA celebrates our Posion Moon. Here are some ideas and activities to consider for tapping into this powerful energy.

Where are you resisting a necessary purging? What toxins are you taking in? What allows you to release?

Fasting

There are many, many different ways of fasting. Some resources are here and here. Spiritual and religious traditions around the world and throughout history have incorporated an element of fasting.

Please be mindful of your physical and mental health. If you are diabetic, if you have a traumatic history with food, or if your health would otherwise be negatively impacted by fasting, give this one a miss. Check out the alternatives at the end instead.

That said, I have used this simple fast, in conjunction with contemplative silence, many times as a way to open myself up before powerful magick.

Set your intentions. What are you releasing? Will you do other work in support of this intention, such as journaling, burning, soaking, or meditation? How will you know everything is going correctly?

Physical Considerations

Avoid excess heat- no saunas or using a hot tub. Also, plan what you will eat to break your fast. Particularly if this is your first time fasting and you’re not sure how your body will react, being near another person and a bathroom is wise.

Fast

From the time you get up until sunset, or some other magical time that you have selected, don’t eat or drink anything except water. Feel the weight of everything you’ve been carrying lift away. Feel the waters you drink cleanse you. Blessed be!

Alternatives

If you want the benefit of release without fasting, try one of these methods.

  • soaking in hot water with or without salts

  • using a sauna

  • heavy exercise to sweat out that which you’re releasing

  • writing down what you are releasing and burning the paper or burying it in the earth

  • a salt scrub
